Empirical Lab Data · n = 261 Capsules

Why an uncalibrated ECM8000 is pure guesswork: 261 capsules compared in our lab.

We have individually calibrated 261 Behringer ECM8000 measurement microphones inside our symmetric Spectra SQ-4.2 pressure chamber against our Class-1 G.R.A.S. 40AE reference using the Audio Precision APx555. The charts below reveal the exact frequency response corridor, the 2D correlation of sensitivity vs. bass linearity, and IEC 61672-1 pass rates across frequency limits.

Across all 100 frequency points, the shaded blue corridor shows where 80% of all capsules (10th to 90th percentile) fall, while the dashed outer boundary marks the batch extremes.

IEC Class 1 vs. Class 2 Pass Rate by Frequency Limit

Shows how many capsules natively stay within the strict IEC tolerance masks as the upper frequency limit is expanded from 10 kHz to 20 kHz.

💡 Lab Insight: Up to 10 kHz, the majority of our capsules natively meet strict IEC Class 1 tolerances. Above 12 kHz, the natural resonance of the 1/4" diaphragm shifts the response into Class 2 territory.
